How to install on HostGator?

I'm trying to install Concrete5 on Hostgator and it's not working. I added the files to the root and created an empty database but when I go to the website URL I just get a 500 error. Does anyone have any experience installing this to HostGator? Is there something simple I'm not understanding or missing?
