Installation Linux Shared Hosting GoDaddy

All we want to do is install C5 to a new account in GD.
Simple right?

Launch the hosting -check ( see the files at the attchment )
Create the sql db - check
upload the zip (5.6.1.20 - check

"Unarchive the file to the directory where you want to install C5" -- and that would be where?
No public_html or the like , folder in the build. Can't find the answer easily in C5 and don't want to just put it any anything without I'm sure it's correct.

"Select the php5.ini file installed at the root level" -- there is no php5.ini in the hosting account. GD support says its not in the shared hosting product and phpinfo shows is above the webroot directory ( all roots are not the same in GD! ). You need to put in your own php5.ini says GD support, yet, to date, have not replied with the script suitable to the build. Doubt they will. GD support is truly retched.

We are not server geeks and the one we got to help - all he wanted was not to use GD and that is not an option where we are - so he was done.

Looking for simple clear help in this matter from experienced eyes.

This set of experienced eyes agrees with your first server guy. Don't host with GoDaddy.

I tried. I tried several times. You are correct when you say that their tech support is wretched. You might also find that their mySQL database response is too slow.

GoDaddy has figured out a way to be profitable without really worrying about satisfying their existing customers. Have you ever seen them advertise the quality of their hosting?

Why must the host be GoDaddy?

We have no problem with other things we do in GD.
There is no great hosting company - only variables that do some things great.
Small hosts do not offer the cost or flexibility that GD do. So - I will put up with the "Apple Genius" standard pf CS.

Some practical advice rather than those wanting to dig at a particular host is preferred. We are not going to move what we have.

I hope admin can delete our multiple entries. It was not intentional to do that.

No public_html or the like , folder in the build.

Unzip the C5 into your public_html folder shown in your screenshot. Then open browser and gotohttp://www.yoursite.com and follow the instructions.

your equivilant of a public_html folder in godaddy is the root folder when you log in to hosting and go to "File manager" or when you connect through ftp. That's what they concider the public_html. Just upload your file there and extract using their built in file manager. Or you can extract them to a folder in your pc, ftp to the hosting account and move all extracted contents to the folder.
So if you extract the zip to a folder called "extracted", you want to go into the extracted folder on ftp (like filezilla) and upload the contents within "extracted" not the folder itsself.
As far as your php5 file. There's a couple ways to achieve this with godaddy. If you have someone who is familiar with SSH, you can enable SSH in your account. (This is disabled by default, they'll need a phone number to call and give you a verification code) Takes about 5 minutes. This will give you access to the Apache folder that either already contains the php5.ini or you can create it with the values outlined in the install guide. I suggest using Notepad++http://notepad-plus-plus.org/ (free) if you need to create it. It saves the correct format and name.
If you're not familiar with SSH then I recommend installing Swish SFTP (its still SSH but with a friendly Windows explorer enviornment)http://www.swish-sftp.org/
Hope this clarified some of your issues.
