Installing Concrete while maintaining a live site.

I currently have a live site that I am going to convert to Concrete5. I have figured out what themes and addons I will use. I would like to install Concrete5 at my hosted site and start building.

However I am not sure how best to approach this initial phase. My current site rests in a folder called default. I would like to be able to build my new Concrete5 site while keeping my current site live. When Concrete5 is ready I would delete the current site and start rolling with Concrete5.

Any advice on how to maintain your current site while building your Concrete5 site. Would I also need to add my future site pages to my robot.txt file so they would not be indexed until I completed the build.

I appreciate any and all recommendations to my first step with Concrete5. I am looking forward to getting started.

Most hosting accounts will allow you to set up sub domains. Install/develop your C5 site on a sub domain, when you're ready to go live, download it and upload it to your default (or move it if your FTP client supports this).

With this approach you don't need to be too concerned re robots.txt
