Is softaculous safe to use

Hi,

I am new to PHP and CMS in general and I want to use your software to start my career because it looks the best. I bought a hosting account from hostpaedia and it came with Softaculous. My Host said to use Softaculous to install Concrete5 and I wanted to know is it safe to use this ?

If you are basing a web design/development career on concrete5, experience of installing is a very useful skill.

I agree with JohntheFish, one day you may have a customer with their own hosting that does not have Softaculous so you will need to know how to set it up.
Try out a manual install first and see how you get on.

Nothing wrong using Softaculous though, it should install fine.

You are right. Actually I have already installed locally after reading your post.
At the moment these hostpaedia guys do give Softaculous. I also used Softaculous and to tell you the truth it really does save nearly 15-20 minutes of upload and installation time.

Softaculous is safe to use for installs, BUT (because there is always a catch) that said I do not personally use Softaculous for updating sites. More than once have I been far enough out of date that softaculous tried to move me up multiple versions in one fell swoop and caused more headaches than it's worth.

My recommendation: Use Softaculous for installs, but when it comes to upgrading always do this via the Concrete5 updater or manually, then go tell softaculous to update so it syncs the version you are currently running. This way you get the simple install, reliable upgrades, and the friendly softaculous notifications when new updates are available.
