Manual Upgrade with regards to Bandwidth

Just throwing out a question about the manual upgrade process. It's my understanding that downloading and extracting the upgrade core to the updates folder increases the size of the site almost double.

When the update is installed, it says that the previous core is intact and concrete is simply told to target the new core. I see this as an issue as I run re-sale hosting on my server and want to cut down on site size as much as possible.

Am I reading this wrong?

The upgrade process downloads a new core and installs it into the updates folder, pointing the site at that folder as the new source of the core. So it effectively doubles the size of the core (but not the site).

Once an upgrade is stable and you know you will never want to revert, you don't need to keep both (or more than both if you have done multiple c5 upgrades).

So you could delete most of the old core (make sure you leave the part that redirects you to upgrades) and either leave it mostly empty, or replace the existing and obsolete core with the content of the relevant update folder and delete the update folder. If you do that, you will also need to edit config/site.php to remove the update pointer.
