Moving my C5 site from a subfolder to my public_html directly

I feel like a total idiot, because I THOUGHT I knew what I was doing, and moved my files from the c5 folder (which was under the public__html and put it straight into the public. However, now nothing works and I can't find any of my pages. I have spent untold hours on this site, and was ready to put it up live, but.....now I am panicked.

I tried putting them back into the C5 directory, but now it shows them as moved, 404 erros and I want to cry.

Someone please help.
Thanks a bunch,

Novice Idiot, Colleen

Hi,

I think if you have moved back to public_html folder. then your problem should be fixed.
if not then check .htacess file.

I've done this type of move lots of times.

here's the key:

Turn off Pretty URLs and clear cache.

Then move everything up one level to public_html.
Then re-enable pretty urls.

Should work.

How do i turn off the pretty urls? I've tried and they won't go away. On the plus side I was able to recover the files as I was at least smart enough to our do a back up before I made the move, so I uploaded the back up back into the c5 folder and bam - my site returned. :)
Now my problem is these canonical files - previously all my blog titles were in a dropdown Under my main't blog page. However now they aren't showing at all anymore and they won't let me undo them so I can put them back as a sub
So frustrating - apparently I know just enough to get myself in ttrouble😄
