Moving website from c5host to new hosting service

Hello everyone,

I need some professional help :)

So, I didn't really know anything about C5 till last week, but I have played with the system and quite like it.

My situation is this:

I have opened an account on the concrete5.org website and started a demo website on the concrete5.org. (http://yoyo2506.c5host.com/).

I also added some themes and add-ons some of them I bought!.

Now, I want to move my website from the C5host server to my new hosting service (hostgator.com if its important). This web hosting service has a feature called one click install for Concrete5 which basically install and create from me the all system.

1) should I use the 1 click install? if Yes, how will I move my website's content? If no, how should I move the website?

2) What about my add-ons (mainly the ones I paid for)? will they move and function properly or will I need to install them again? what would be the situation with the paid ones? will I need to buy them again???!!!???

3) My domain is with GoDaddy. I want it to point to my new hosting server which is on hostgator. Do I need to do the redirection of my domain on GoDaddy first? or can I first transfer and upload the site to a local domain on my host.

4) I don't want anyone to see the website while building it. Is it possible to have a "coming soon" landing page or lock the website so when you go to the domain you will see log in page.

Thank you for your answers. I am sure they will be helpful to many...

A: It should be fine to use the 1 click Install after the end of january when most 1-click installs will be updated to 5.5. It will install a fresh version of Concerete5. You will need to reconnect to the community. You can do using your existing login details. To move the site content.. (in my limited knowledge) It will have to be copy and paste today... and a simple re-uploading of all your files to the new install.

2) What about my add-ons (mainly the ones I paid for)? will they move and function properly or will I need to install them again? what would be the situation with the paid ones? will I need to buy them again???!!!???

A: You will have a fresh install so you will need to re-install all your add-ons to the new installation. Simply login to http://www.concrete5.org , release those (paid-for) add-ons from the projects page under 'My Account' and connect them to your new installation. You'll find your licences at the bottom of the 'projects' page. You will not need to buy them again.

3) My domain is with GoDaddy. I want it to point to my new hosting server which is on hostgator. Do I need to do the redirection of my domain on GoDaddy first? or can I first transfer and upload the site to a local domain on my host.

A: You can use the 1 click install, edit the new install and once you are happy with it and are ready to make it public; go ahead and redirect your domain or update your DNS to the new install on hostgator.

4) I don't want anyone to see the website while building it. Is it possible to have a "coming soon" landing page or lock the website so when you go to the domain you will see log in page.

A: Yes and yes. You could simply go to the home-page on your new 1-click install and set permissions so its hidden from guests. Guests will only see the login page. Or add you 'coming soon' page and restrict permissions to guest for all pages but that one. When you are ready to make it public, change the permissions on the home-page again.

Hope that helps you somewhat.

1) & 2) Don't use the one-click install in this case. Follow the instructions found here:http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/installation/moving_a_site/...

This will move the entire site, with all of your add-ons, content, photos, etc to the new host.

3) You don't need a redirect here. You can move the site to your new host and update the DNS records for the domain to point to the new IP. Plan for this to take some time to resolve.

4) Concrete5 makes this pretty easy to do. Simply create the "coming soon" page and use permissions to restrict access to guests to only that page. Just look under the documentation tab of this site to see how permissions work.
