No Add Page button - anywhere

I've installed 5.5.1 three times and there is no "Add Page" button on the Dashboard. Is there something I need to do to make it appear? I can add pages via the sitemap.

Hi Jessica,

Sorry you're having a problem. Not to sound stupid, but I don't recall there ever being an "Add Page" button literally on the "Dashboard" page.

For me... in v5.5.1... when you are logged in and viewing a page, all I have to do is mouse over the "Edit" button in the upper right corner of the screen and there's an "Add Subpage" button. This does the same thing as the "Add Page" button did in 5.4.x... it adds a page underneath the page you're currently viewing. If you want to add a page that is at the same level as your other main navigation pages, you would do this task from the Home page of your site (all first-level navigation elements are really children of the Home page).

Is that what you were looking for? If not, can you be more specific?

Apparently that *is* what I was looking for - by "Dashboard", I meant "Toolbar," and the button I was referring to is here:http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/editors-guide/in-page-editin... -- if that documentation is from a previous version, everything makes sense now.

...but it didn't occur to me that a sub-page of the home page is the same thing as "adding a page" - so thanks for that illumination!

LOL! Don't feel bad! I've fallen prey to the same issue, too... v5.5 has enough differences in its user interface that a lot of the documentation you find (both here on C5's site and elsewhere on the web) doesn't apply. It gets frustrating, but if you go into any search for info knowing that things in 5.5 are different than what you're reading, at least you're forearmed! ;D

Glad that helped get you on the right track. And don't be afraid to post more questions on here. I've found the C5 community to be extremely helpful, welcoming and friendly!

Hi John,
I'm grappling with a similar issue, but my version must be different, because there's an ADD PAGE button to the right of the EDIT PAGE button. However, when I add the page, it doesn't show up anywhere in my navigation, so how are people supposed to find the page? I want to add a sub-page that shows up when you hover over or click that page tab in the navbar. For example, on my website:http://www.negotiationfox.com I have a page called "Services". I'm now adding different types of services, so I'd like to split them out under the main Services tab. Is there a way to do that? I'm also new to this, so I'd be most grateful for any suggestions you might have. Thanks, Nancy a/k/a Negotiation Fox

Hi Nancy,

You're right... you must have an earlier version of Concrete5 installed, because the most recent 5.5.x versions no longer have the "Add Page" button.

That being said, when you are on a page and click the "Add Page" button, it is adding a child page underneath the page you are on. However, in order for you to be able to see it in the navigation for your site, two things have to be true:

(1) Your site's theme has to have the correct CSS (and/or JS) to handle the display of sub-navigation items when you hover over them.

AND

(2) The Auto-Nav block being used in the header of your site has to be configured correctly to display the child pages. I think you need to set the "Sub Pages to Display" and the "Sub-Page Levels" for the Auto-Nav block both to "Display All" so that they show.

If either one of these isn't setup correctly, your site won't display the sub-pages the way you expect.

If you go to your "Dashboard" then go to the "Sitemap", you should be able to expand whatever page you've been on when you clicked "Add Page" and see all of the new, blank pages there so you can edit them and/or delete them.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for all that useful information. A few more questions: 1) I don't know what CSS is; where do I go to change that? 2) Same question for the Navbar. How do I find the place where I can edit the Navbar? I had someone else set this site up for me, and I've been trying to learn how to make changes. Have watched a lot of the "How to" videos, and have learned a lot - but, still a "newbie". Sounds like you're way ahead of me, so I really appreciate your help. Thanks, Nancy

Hello Nancy,
The version of Concrete you are using is 5.4.2.1,
CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets,
Your website is using two CSS files, one is called "main.css" and the other is "typography.css"
The main.css is used by web browsers for rendering your pages and the typography.css is used by the built in editor when making changes in edit mode,
I see from your main.css that you do have some elements for the control of the navigation links but some of them have no styling (empty)..
