Publishing a site online that was built locally

Hello folks!
Thanks for a great CMS.
I have built a website locally using MAMP Server. Now it's about time to be published online. How do you publish online a site you have already built on your computer? I have tried to search for information on how to do this, but didn't find any.
I tried just uploading all the files and folders from the MAMP/htdocs/my-site -folder to my web server. Furthermore, I created a database on the server. All I can see now online is the front page of the site, but all the rest is "not found".
Could someone help please? Or if you know some website concerning this very same problem, I would be more than pleased to know!

Sorry for overposting - the form gets stuck while sending the question, ending up sending the same post many times. And couldn't find an option for deleting a post.
For the topic, thank you for the link. I have tried following the steps, but unfortunately couldn't publish the site. I ended up having an "Internal Server Error". Any tips for this?
