Site admin can no longer access the site

Okay this isn't really a site installation question, but wasn't sure where to put it.
I've had a customer site up for a few months and let them start working in it and adding items. Site works fine, but now when I attempt to log in with the site admin login, the login username and password is accepted, but it just refreshes the login page and I don't goto the dashboard. If I access the site, I also don't see the "edit" bar at the top.
I've tried the following:
1) Reset the password (a couple times) can "log in" after I reset the password, but again, it refreshes with the dashboard page.
2) I cleared browser cache and all the files in the Zend Cash folder - no change except refreshed to the login page a little slower
I'm at a lost at the moment

The last thing I recall doing was upgrading to 5.4.2 (or whatever the latest version is/was) (at least I think that is the last time I was in)
