Strange strange issues

Hi, I have tried twice to install c5 and with some success but then i come across a major problem. I get the 'installation success' message but then when i go to edit my first page I cannot exit the edit mode. I got fedup first time around and deleted the whole thing. I noticed that i couldn't delete all the items in the files directory. Do you have to chmod the folder to 777 or the folder and all its contents also?

It is a really weird and annoying issue. It just won't let me publish any edits or anything.

Any ideas what would be happening? My server config is all good and like I said it seems to install properly, however, when i reach the edit mode i cannot exit it. I think it is linked to the /files directory issue but i cannot be sure.

Thanks in advance

Just following up on this. I have used the same download to install the c5 locally on my mamp server. there was no issues at all. I don't have a clue what is going on with my live hosting.

It appears to be stuck in edit mode and when I publish changes they neither save, nor allow me to exit edit mode.

I notice some of the cache files are owned by user99. Is this expected? It is probably unrelated but I'd like to get to the bottom of this.

We are running PHP 5.2.6 and MySQL 5.

Finally got to the bottom of this. I ticked the option for clean urls and updated my htaccess and it worked! I have it installed in a subdirectory i.e. mydomain.com/concrete but i think the htaccess in my root directory was maybe messing it up. Do you think this is possible?

Glad i got it sorted though.

I hear you brother. Those little things you sometimes take for granted bite you in the bum every time.

"Slaps Forehead" when I do those sort of things.

They sure do! I really didn't know what was up but I am guessing it is due to my root htaccess. I had tried uploading a blank htaccess file to the concrete folder but a blank htaccess file mustn't overwrite the root directory one! Does this make sense?

That is one of the great things about the .htaccess file. Leave your root one alone (or modify it sparingly) and put copies of it with what you need at the right level.

Now having said that, if your hosting on a system like godaddy.com or some other hosting service you may have to look there to ensure your changes won't effect something else.

Maybe we should be known as Tinkers since we tinker with these systems all the time. (Just joking!!)

Well thanks for the help. Now I can concentrate on developing a new site! One final question. Can I build a test site on my own live hosting and then easily transfer to a different server? Or would I have to reinstall it all again and upload themes. I think it should be ok as I will be transferring from my cpanel acccount to the clients cpanel account.

I am sure someone here can help you better than I about the transferring of a site.

I would recommend searching the forums for that and I put that on my Docs to have List.
