Thumbnails not generating

I've searched the forums and tried the recommendations but haven't found resolution as of yet.
We migrated our c5 site to another server and in the file manager, initially we weren't able to upload so I zapped the /files directory with 777 and upload functionality was restored.
However, the thumbnails that are automatically generated upon upload of images does not appear to be functioning.
What can I do to check and resolve this issue?
Please advise.

Have you check in edit mode.. ?
Try to edit the page and see if images are showing up or not.
