Transferring Concrete Website

Hello all!
I am in the process of transferring a clients site to a new hosting provider. I have never transfered a C5 site before.
There are several things about the site that make it so I wouldn't mind kind of starting over from a clean install (especially since we are still on 5.4 and want to update to 5.5 anyway).
My question is this... if I set up a brand new install of C5 on my new server will I be able to still transfer over things like all of our users logins and such?

Thank you so much for you help!
~Kari

That sounds like playing with too many variables. Much safer to transfer the existing site with same C5 version. You know it works and has been stable, you know your way round that version of C5. you know its foibles. Therefore any issues can be tracked down and would most likely arise from the new host environment.

Once it is stable on the new host, be sure to backup, swap the theme to default (temporarily), backup again, then upgrade, backup again, then swap the theme back.

Yeah couldn't agree more John. Moving a site is enough to do in one go, once that's tested fine, I would put it live and then upgrade the OLD site to 5.5 and then you know what to expect when you upgrade the live site.

Good luck!
