Unable to update my installation - '500 - Internal server error'

The thread title says it all really, I'm receiving a '500 - Internal server error', followed by 'There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.' when trying to update my installation; just need help fixing it! It appears after selecting 'download' in the 'available update' section. I also get the same error when trying to download/update add-ons. Also, there aren't any recent error logs under reports.
I'm currently hosted on GoDaddy (looking to change this though) on a linux server, hosting configuration 2.2, and the website's:http://crimsonnight.com.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

What versions are you updating from/to?

A strong possibility with a basic account is that the server runs out of processor time or memory resources before it can complete the update.

Could be, but as I can't even update my add-ons, I think there could be another issue. When trying to update add-ons I get the following error: 'Unable to backup old package directory to D:\Hosting\2499211\html/files/trash'. I'm trying to upgrade C5 from 5.6.3.1 to 5.6.3.3. Thanks for replying :)

The error you mention on updating addons will be because either the trash directory doesn't exist, or it has the wrong permissions.

Have a look at
http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/how-tos/developers/sort-out-...

and also at
http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/how-tos/editors/file-permiss...

The update could be failing if the updates directory has wrong permissions.

Thanks a lot, but I decided that migrating hosts would be easiest, and luckily it was, everything now works a treat - thanks all the same :)
