Unable to upgrade from 5.4.2.2

Machighway support cant't seem to help me decipher the instructions on this pagehttp://www.concrete5.org/documentation/how-tos/developers/update-ve...
which they sent me. My site is down due to an incompatibility with the version of concrete5 that I am using - 5.4.2.2. I can't get to the Dashboard. Can someone please, in plain and simple steps, tell me how to move forward and get my site back up. I am using cPanel X. Thank you!

... not sure if this is the best medication in your case...
but if you just upgraded and something bad happened you can usually revert back to the version you previously had with little to no issues (if you created a database back up)

http://www.rynomediaonline.com/resources/downgrading-your-concrete5...

*saved me a few times

you need to ftp to your site.php and change your version number back to the previous version that was good.

after changing you need to update your database with your old database back up

*the forms are littered with people posting about updating old sites to newer versions usually its caused by taking to big of a leap when updating so if you update slowly everything should go good.

*there could be other factors at play like your servers php version, or settings

My site was running on 5.4.2.2. Machighway made a change to their servers which causes my url to display lines of errors. I have no way to get to the dashboard. Is there a way to get there without the site being up?

Machighway tech support, polite as they are, offer no help. They say no one there uses it. If I can get my site restored, I will be moving to another host.

someone else just posted that machighway changed there php version on there server to php5.4

if thats your issue you or machighway needs to put it back or it will probably never work

Thank you for the responses so far.
Machighway is highway robbery. With no warning, my site is gone and they offer no help. I wouldn't know php from a hole in the wall. I am capable of working within the constraints of Concrete5 but without the ability to get to the dashboard, I'm hosed.

http://www.machighway.com/sitebuilder.php <- find it kind of funny they told you no one uses concrete5

if you ask machighway how to change your php version to something lower they should be able to help you (again if thats your issue) if you log into mac high way you should be in the cpannel in cpannel you should find your php settings

to get there you have to log into machighway not your concrete5 site

while you are in there make a full backup to your computer
Download your files and Database mysql

*its possible to upgrade without getting to the dashboard apparently
(however without knowing exactly what your issue is this could break your site, you still cant just jump to the current version you need to update slowly)
http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/how-tos/developers/manually-...

**make a backup ! from cpannel

Thank you SheldonB.

I am currently forwarding my site to facebook but this is what you see without the forward.

I will try to digest the information you have given me so far. Thanks again!

http://www.concrete5.org/community/forums/chat/php-5.3.x-vs-5.4.x/
<- this post kinda talks about what you are running into.

because your at 5.4.2.2 I think you want to get to 5.5.2.1 then to 5.6.0 then to 5.6.1 -> 5.6.2

following the link that shows how to maunally upgrade

*how i would go about trouble shooting*
1)fist i would try to log in
http://www.riverworksimaging.com/index.php/login...

2)if you are not presented to an error you can find your dashboard at
http://www.riverworksimaging.com/index.php/dashboard...

all fails
(make a back up of both files and database)

if you are unable to change the php version back 5.2 or 5.3

then try the manual update after you make the backups to 5.5.2.1 you can find the different version on the download page at the bottom

*** things that i could see going wrong is that (maybe) the php version has issues and won't allow scripts to run to be upgraded - in witch case you will need to somehow get your site to a php version with a lower number, you could A) run a host on you're desktop or B) move a copy of your site to a diffrent server then move it back or move the url to the new server

*note if you have ftp and see .htaccess you should be able to change your version of php there

other then something changing on your server (because it was working) i can't tell you what went wrong - so this approach would be my best guess. I could be completely wrong what what i am saying but because someone else posted that machighway changed there php version on them when updating its my best guess the same thing happened to you.

If you want more help you can post a request in the jobs section too so your not alone in fixing things

Yeah, the links don't allow access. I'll investigate the ftp approach though I may have to solicit help as you suggested. I really appreciate your help. Thanks

I'm a MacHighway customer too (though probably not for much longer, since they think it's acceptable to upgrade server-side services without so much as a "head's up") and have the exact same problem x3 (three separate sites, all down).

Since MacHighway refuses to bring up the older version of PHP to allow an upgrade path, I'm going to attempt pulling the sites & DB's down to my computer and running it local. If I can get it working, theoretically I can upgrade locally. Then (again, theoretically) I can upload the upgraded sites to MacHighway where I've installed a new version of C5.

I'll post back with instructions if I can get it to work. Finger's crossed....

Try turning off php (strict) error reporting with a local php.ini file,
Create a file called php.ini and place it in your root (same place as your index.php file)
Add this code to your php.ini file
error_reporting = E_ALL | E_DEPRECATED

i've been hanging in the wings to hear of a resolution to the php upgrade by machwy that put down these sites and mine. HAVE ANY OF YOU FOUND A RESOLUTION? :) i'm also running 5.4.2.2 for site dayacheson.info and do have full backups and am considering attempting a cpanel upgrade to a newer version. has anyone had success yet with this plan? upgrading through the versions slowly? upgrading directly to 5.6.1.2? all responses welcome!

dont go straight to 5.6 it wont work ... i think changing the php.ini with error reporting off helped *its marked as best answer

other wise you can make a php local server on your computer and use your back up and run the installs then move the files back to your server

I punted and am now just redesigning the site with the new installation. Found a snapshot of the layout on web.archive.org so I have something to go by, and I can dig the content out of the mySQL tables I backed-up (though painfully). On the plus side, it forces me to learn the new features in the most recent version of C5...

The big question will be, how hard will it be to migrate to a new host. Because I won't be staying with MacHighway much longer after this...
