update to version 5.4.2.2 error (kunden directory?)

Permalink 1 user found helpful
Hi.. I have updated this software in the past without problems. It has been a long time since I was asked to do this and for some reason I am getting "directory /kunden/homepages/2/d295427949/htdocs/updates" does not exist. I have tried to add this directory but have no idea what "kunden" means or infact the d295427949? Is this something that is outside of the home directory of the website? I have also tried to give the folders, "files, config, and packages" the 777 permission and nothing works. I did a search of the ftp files directory for any "updates" folder and there isn't any. When I upgraded in the past, I don't remember an updates folder.

I am stuck! Anyone with an answer to help me? I have several updates to go through for this website.

Thanks.

To answer some some of your questions...

'kunden' is German for 'clients'
'd295427947' is probably your client id
'htdocs' holds your website

From what version are you trying to upgrade?

Sorry.... my current version is 5.4.0.5 and it says an update is available 5.4.2.2. I know I have to go through each update one at a time but can't get passed the error message. So, how do I get to the "kunden" directory? or.... where do I create the "updates" directory? Also, I don't see the d295... number that is listed in the error. I see other numbers but not that one. I can go directly to Concrete5.org and I think, download all missing updates but just need to know where to put them. Thanks.

You don't need to get to 'kunden' directory of the 'd9..' directory, since those are just your hosts setup to categorize their clients.

When it comes to upgrades, I usually do manual upgrades as you are asking for.

This is a great how-to on doing manual upgrades, which tells you to download the zip-file, unzip the concrete folder over your existing one (on the server) and then run an upgrade script located at 'yourdomain.com/index.html/tools/upgrade': http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/how-tos/developers/manually-...

You should also read up on the upgrade information for each version here: http://www.concrete5.org/about/blog/core-releases/...

You should read this how-to as well. This is the suggested way by the core team.

After 5.4.2.2 you should go to 5.5.2.1 and then on to 5.6.0.2.

How did it go?

I was so worried about where to put the missing updates folder because of the url string I could not find because I didn't understand what or where "kunden" directory was... I learned it is just the root directory and not to worry the url string, just go to the root and add the folder "/updates"

I went to Concrete5.org and downloaded all updates in a separate file on my computer, and unzipped them there. I went through my FTP program to get to the root directory, and just created a folder called "/updates" and uploaded the unzipped folder version I needed which was 5.4.2.2 into the new /updates folder. I knew the first one I was updating to by looking at the dashboard maintenance area and clicking on update, it told me what the next update version was. After uploading that version folder, I then went back to the dashboard, maintenance, and update area and clicked on that update button and it worked like a charm. I repeated this process until all were updated. One important thing I did was to back up my database after each update.

Thank you especially to GregJoyce, adajad who helped me with your very quick responses... your information finally made it so easy to complete all updates.
