Updated Concrete5; Editing Problems

Permalink 1 user found helpful
I updated Concrete5, all of my pages work fine except for my homepagehttp://www.godlywriter.com ...Anyway, the other pages work fine or seem to at this time. I tried to edit the homepage. It won't let me make the edited page publish and there isn't an option on the Edit tab that says publish. It used to have a preview my edits and an option to publish it right next to each other, now it doesn't. I tried to go to the versions123 and it shows all previous versions, but it won't let me approve the most recent version. A past version in in bold and it shows as the published version. Did the publish option get moved somewhere else?? Any ideas or know-how would be appreciated, thanks :)

First, clear the cache. Better yet, turn off all C5 caching until you're happy with how the site is working. That includes your browser caching as well.

Second, I would go to Dashboard->System and Settings->Debug Settings and make sure 'Show errors on page' is selected. This might allow you to see an error that was being hidden before. Sometimes you need to use 'View Source' on a broken page to see if the error message is being generated but is hidden from view for a variety of reasons.

Next, have a look at your browser's JavaScript console to see if it's thrown an error that's halting the page from completing. Here's how to do that:

Chrome: Right-click on the page->Inspect Element->Console Tab

Firefox: Right-click->Inspect with Firebug->Console Tab (Firebug add-on must be installed in Firefox first)

IE9: F12->Console Tab->Refresh

Report back any findings and we'll go from there.

I did the first and second suggestion, but here's the thing. When I'm logged in I see the page as I want it, but when I go to the page without being logged in it shows errors on the page. It doesn't say exactly what those errors are. So that's why I looked at the versions123 option, so it seems to be stuck on the version that was in affect on the day I updated Concrete5. It won't let me change that page version to a new one. I tried to copy a previous version, which doesn't show errors by the way, and it let me. So that copy is what I was working off of and I see that version when I'm logged in. However, when I just visit the page it shows the one with errors. All the other pages update and change fine. It's only the home page that won't change. I'm using Windows Internet Explorer, so I'm not sure how to do that last suggestion. Thanks so much for attempting to help! I hope you have some more insights into the issue...lol...it's really appreciated :)

Ok, I went back to Versions123 after doing your first two suggestions. I tried checked the box beside the most recent version that I had been working on. Then I clicked the "approve" icon. An error message popped up, so I clicked the x in the top right corner. I was on the homepage again and clicked back into Versions123. It showed my newest version in bold, so I exited out and signed out. Then went to visit the page and it's working fine now. I'm not sure what the error was, but I really appreciate your help. Clearing all the cache and turning them off had something to do with it I'm sure! The reason for the problem I'm not too sure of, but that and trying approve the new version seems to have been what it took to get it in order.
