Ok, start off with, sorry. This probably seems like a really stupid question but how do I update concrete.

Last time I updated (can not remember how did it) it updated concrete to the point it could not read the databases and therefore could not show the site so had to uninstall concrete and delete databases then re-install and re-build the intire site again from scratch.

in fact i'm still working on parts of it, so do not want to loose anything ideally, just a couple of addons if anything.
