Upgrade to 5.5.2.1 from 5.5.2 has bricked site.

I upgraded from 5.5.2 to 5.5.2.1, or tried to. It complained that there wasn't an "updates" directory.

I created one and updated. On refreshing I had lost access to the dashboard, system pages had no formatting, and some (but not all) site pages had incorrect formatting.

I looked at my public_html directory and saw that under the updates directory that I had just made, an ENTIRE new concrete5 installation had been made (or so it seemed) in addition to the one I had before the upgrade.

I deleted it, thinking it superfluous. An minor version upgrade wouldn't lead to a complete re-installation somewhere else, I thought.

Now, no site at all. 8-(.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the quick response Colin. Unfortunately it doesn't work for me (500 error). I guess deleting the updates directory was a really bad idea. [EDIT] It has worked, after I removed the contents of the updates directory. Thanks!

If you backed up your database prior to the update , then doing a restore may help get things back to the way they were. if you don't have a back up then I did see a tutorial on making changes to the database to correct unsuccessful update.
