Straight to the point:
Stop wasting your time installing c5, we'll do it for you in our super sweet hosting environment for just $15/month. No hidden fees or startup costs!
http://www.getconcrete5.com/get_started/...

Longer explanation:
There's a very small handful of people who are paid to support this software. As I'm sure you know, the software is free, so the only revenue we get is consulting, merchandise sales, and... hosting!

I'm sure you will understand then why as CEO of c5 I have to pull the plug on having my team personally debug c5 installs on every server setup under the sun. The last few weeks we've found more and more of our time going into getting c5 running on super-budget hosts and windows boxes - neither of which we ever thought was a good idea in the first place. Deep down, we love helping people get on the web and of course we want as many people using c5 as we can get.

It is because we want to help the largest majority of people with the biggest problems that we've come to the decision that we can no longer personally pay attention to the installation forum every day. There is a good group of very smart volunteers who we dearly hope will continue to give their time helping others here. If one of those folks brings an idea or change to us around the install process we can easily implement, we'll be happy to do it. Beyond that we're simply killing ourselves debugging everyone's unique server setup by hand. I hear the frustration: "Hey I want to use your software and you won't help me?!?"... Actually, that's not true...

We're announcing we've slashed our basic hosting plan in half, and eliminated startup fees on http://GetConcrete5.com. For $15/month we'll gladly setup c5 for you, give you complete access, we're even going to upgrade your site with the latest stable codebase whenever it's made available. Frankly I think that's a deal you can't beat. We'll help you, the hosting revenue will help us, everyone wins.

By all means I encourage ongoing discussion around installation issues. I know there are intranets, other web hosts, any number of very valid reasons you might not want to host with us. But if you really feel like you need to find a cheaper deal some where else, please don't give us attitude for not helping you pull that off.

Thanks for your continued passion and excitement, we're gonna go back to thinking about the big picture again. ;)

ceo, c5.

fantastic deal

Thats a very generous deal, I have to say that to start with I was one of those people that couldn't get my head round the installation process..

But with a bit of googling I've got it running on Webfusion hosting and locally on Mac OS X Leopard.

This is great for practising with but when we start creating proper sites for clients I think we will use your hosting option.

Straight dope.

For $15 a month this is a no-brainer.

Codebase updates alone are worth the price of admission.

Great Idea - Thank You

The unanswered questions in the forums were getting depressing.

The Horror.

Good Idea maybe too expensive

for 180$/year in Italy we can have 5 to 10 hosting plans... the point isn't to use or not use your hosting service.. it to understand why is not working wide on many hostings.. anyway is a good idea for fund-raising and no trouble installation

Wow

What about potential customers? If they come to me with their own domain name & hosting what am I supposed to do? Talk them into switching over to you too just so I can use this software to build their site?

Is that what you all are doing? You don't make money off the software so you make money off hosting it instead. Is that why there's always a couple of settings off non-programmers/coders on shared servers can't even access much less can they fix them. I've just spent the last couple of weeks trying one after another & there's always some lil something with every one. And it's always either me or my host's fault so I need to switch host's. My current hosting is $7/mo & I can barely afford it.

If I could get this installed & it actually work & build cool sites I have a customer I was researching for. This is really for his site. If I could get something cool on his site & build him a wicked cool site I'd make money & could afford your $15/mo. But I'm going to have to get something working on my site to move to his first. I can't even get yours installed...what a shame. It looked promising.

no, what you need to do is learn how to run a server. most people on this site have their own server and run c5 flawlessly.

wow...

really? i didnt even think about it and this thing was installed up and running.... simple! Easiest thing i've done and I do print design. Dont gripe if u dont know.

A fine beginner solution

For me, as a designer who occasionally makes xhtml/css websites but without any knowledge on how to set up a CMS on a server, this seems rather attractive. A higher fee, but far less troubles, and a smaller learning curve.
But still some questions remain:
• With all files installed solely on the C5 server (basic hosting package), there will be no backup of the whole website?
• How can you get access to the files on the server i.e. to change css, or to change the themes?

questions on hosting plans on getconcrete5

Feb 02, 2009 at 12:44 PM
well yes, we actually run localized backup on everyhting.. but no, for the basic plan you don't have access to that on your own.. if our hard drive fails, your site will go back up.. if you call us at 10pm saying you need to roll back to yesterday's version of the site, its not easy for me to just do that.

you can get access to change files through SFTP.. you also get cpanel access, etc.

tryout version

Is it possible to get at the css files and template folder with the demo version?

What about transferring domains?

I've already got a domain name at MT and am running concrete 5 (albeit very slowly) but would like to move over to this hosting... How should I go about doing that? I have several potential clients who also have domain names, with no hosting who are interested.

not a problem

Just signup here:

When your site is looking good, point the name servers of your domain to our name servers and everything will work out fine.
