I'm not sure how the rest of the community feels and I certainly don't want to cause any hard feelings but I don't appreciate you bumping these kinds of postings. My inbox get's full enough.

Agreed. I came on here to write a slightly less polite response.

I'm a huge fan of all the "I've sent you a PM" posts :-P

A bit harsh, don't you think?

If it was a free and open source community. I might agree. It isn't. It is an open core community so why shouldn't some people that put time and effort in helping others out also get the benefit of a bit of advertising now and again? Badges don't put bread on the table, but if they did. The OP would have a very sumptuous feast. And, lets face it. The business side of Concrete5 is as rare as rocking-horse droppings when it comes to answering support posts so I for one don't mind community veterans touting their wares occasionally.

I guess my point is that potential customers do not generally subscribe to this thread. They arrive with issues and stumble upon this thread as a solution. I have been a successful businessman for almost 30 years so I am certainly pro self promotion and pro competition. I'd just like to see it expressed in the right place. I'd very much like to see a 'marketplace' here where developers could' strut their stuff' and offer their services.

I'm sorry I commented because this is also not the proper venue for this discussion.

I would like someone who would set up a gallery on my website that I could add to.

I saw a couple of inexpensive add-ons in the Market place that would work.
Thanks

Want to get mad at someone? Get mad at the REAL spammers that keep posting fake stuff on here.

I'm just a struggling freelancer trying to make ends meet. Forgive me for trying to stand out.

Yeah. I do get pretty mad at them. However, that's just what spammers do.

A community member, on the other hand, I'd expect more from.

But at least I'm glad you see the comparison, too.

I'm just curious, where else besides the Jobs forums would a struggling user simply say "hey, I'm experienced and I have availability" ?

That seems like a perfectly valid and reasonable attempt to be assertive and open up lines of communication with other community members to me.

If Growth were posting every week like this....that could get old. Once in a while I don't see the big deal.

If the concern is that if one person can do it, then suddenly 32 people do it....that's legitimate as well. But perhaps a conversation about an "available for hire" thread is due?

I just don't see the need to be rude to the guy personally.

I'm relatively new around here so perhaps I jumped the gun on this. I was also careful not to be rude. I understand the need for the original message. It was the 'bump' I was concerned about which I mentioned in my first post. I would support a discussion about improving the "Developer's Marketplace" but let's take it out of this thread and perhaps into the 'Community Leaders' area.

Hi,
Sorry I'm not here to tell people they should be less or more harsh or whatever. I think what Growth did was really not that much of an annoyance and perfectly in his right. The principle of this community is also to accept things we don't like so we get all the other ones we like.

My question is more about "is it working"? I'm asking growth here. Do you actually get answers? I find it already hard enough to get people who actually post a job to answer messages so I'm curious. Do you actually get answers when posting about being available?

If it's actually a working strategy, then I agree with radiantWeb and his "available for hire thread" idea. That should be discussed.

Yes, posting these availability posts helps me out a lot! I get at least 3 or more responses from each.

One time, I landed a $3000+ job with a university because of it!

I'm sure we all know that in the job searching world you need to be aggressive to stand out. I will not apologize for my actions. I am just trying to earn a living.

I'm still available for any other jobs, by the way...

Yeahhh.... My problem is that there are lots of people who work "EXCLUSIVELY" with concrete5, and lots of people looking for work.

Some define moral as that which everyone could do. Being ballsy and bumping your own posts in a forum meant for people looking for help might work fine now (if not be annoy me and others who "monitor" this forum by email), but it's just not sustainable. Just wait till another ten people decide as you've decided and start posting in here, and then bumping their own posts. The forum will literally break down and no longer serve its purpose effectively.

But, as you've said, you're not going to apologize, and you're not going to stop, so...

With that being said, I fully support a forum or, even better, a directory on c5.org. You already have a profile, so it'd be easy enough for Julia to set up a page to link to them.

I've started a new thread in the 'Community Leaders' forum:
