Dont understand how to make the correct description of my blog display

Permalink
Hello all,

Me again. :(

I decided to update the description of my blog. When I hit the RSS Feed in Firefox, it looks like this:

"Blog regarding health and welfare of feral cats, stray cats, and shelter animals"

I logged in, updated it in Properties, saved, published changes, cleared Cache a few times, tried to clear recent history in Firefox, crashed, rebooted twice...

When I look at the RSS feed in Internet Explorer, there is no description for my blog.

When I go back to Firefox, the old description is there.

The new description should be this:

"Gemini's Blog is a pet and animal information blog offering advice, commentary and sometimes humorous insight about feral cats, stray cats, shelter pets, pets in general, animal rescue, pet fairs, pet conferences, and current events relating to pet health and safety as well as pet and animal related activities."

I am starting to hate this website...every time I try to do something that I think should be simple, it takes me hours and I come running to the Forum... :(

Thanks for any advice and help any of you can offer,

Perhaps a silly question so don't get mad... When you say you 'updated it in Properties', do you mean to page's properties or the Page List properties. The RSS feed description is changed in the Page List options. The reason I asked is because when I look at the source of your blog page, the description for that page is exactly like the description you want for the RSS feed.

Also, to eliminate the overcrowding of the links in your sidebar, try removing the following lines from your main.css:

Line 115: line-height:20px;
Line 120: height:20px;

Hope this helps.

Thank you.

Perhaps a silly question to you, but where do I find the Main CSS file? How do I get to it? I don't have a clue. I did not set up this site. Someone else did. And where do I find the Page List Options? I just logged in and searched, and could not find this.

I updated Page Properties / Standard Properties with the new description I wanted and Saved / Published Edits.

Thanks again. I would really like to learn to do all this myself, perhaps I can with a little help from my friends here!! :)

I sent you a PM but for others who pass this way in the future, here's what you need to do:

To change the RSS description, put your page in Edit mode and hover over the main part of your Blog page. When the area turns grey, click on it and choose 'Edit'. In the next window that opens, scroll down and you will see a box for your RSS Title and another box for your RSS Description.

As for changing the main.css, you will need to get access to the server to do that. You will need to use an FTP program such as Filezilla (it's free). You will need the 'FTP' username and password for your server. If that's not available, do you have access to the server's Control Panel? There should be a 'File Manager' in the Control Panel where you can edit the files on your server.

If you are able to get to the server, you need to make my suggested changes to the 'main.css' file located in the 'public_html/themes/dreamy' folder.

Hope this helps.
