After Login

Hi All,

I want to either offer a link to a user after login or redirect after login to a specific page (Public profiles are disabled). Unfortunately, the login destination feature stopped working and I'm not finding much luck with searches here in the forum.

I'm trying to find a workaround. I thought I'd add a link to the news overlay page and that works but if the user has logged in within 24 hours, they won't see it. Would someone please tell me if one of the following is possible?

1) Add a link to the dashboard toolbar at the top to a specific page on the site
Or
2) Have the news overlay show each time the user logs in no matter how often. Is it possible to adjust the time period for the overlay to show permanently after login?

Currently using version 5.6.3.1.

Thanks in advance!
Hope

You should really figure out why the standard feature stopped working, but in the meantime you could add your link to the footer_required.php then position it over the edit toolbar with CSS when the user is logged in (quick and dirty).

Thanks for your reply, Phallanx. I have no idea why it stopped working nor how to go about determining the reason. I'm using Concrete5 because it was the best choice for this particular website but I have no experience other than setting it up and customizing the theme. I'm not sure where to look other than the system settings (and a bit of searching the forums here). I would love to be able to dive in to the code but I'm just an HTML person. Hope that explains my lack of knowledge a bit more.

I will give your suggestion a try but I do not know how to have the link show only to logged in users. Any help there would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
Hope

Is there a way to have a block display only to a user who has logged in? Perhaps I could have a link in that block for the logged in user. The issue is that I have a client who needs extra help when it comes to any sort of links. I created a page (login required) full of links to all frequently used pages but in order for it to be viewed, the user must be logged in. The problem is, even getting to that one page is an issue for the client so I need it to be as easy as possible for the client to access this particular page. This is why I was hoping a link at the top would be possible. Any help would be most appreciated!

Yes. You can set the permission on a particular block to only be visible to registered users. If it is a sub set of users (or only one) then you can create and add them to a group and then make the block only visible to that group.

Thanks Phallanx. That's great news. However, I do not see where to adjust the permissions on an individual block. When I add a block and then click on it, I only see these options:
Edit, Copy, Move, Delete, Design, Custom Template

Are block permissions done elsewhere in the admin/dashboard or is it in one of the above options and I'm missing it?

Thanks,
Hope

You are missing some options there (principally the "Set Permissions"). See attached image.

You say you have lost the ability to redirect and you seem to be lacking some menu items. Are you sure you are logged in as Administrator? If not, that may explain why these options are missing.

Just to throw more options into the mix. There is also an addon in the marketplace that can redirect to specific pages.

Thanks for the addon link! I looked there for a page redirect but couldn't afford the one I found. This is very helpful. As far as being logged in - I am the super admin. Could it be that advanced permissions must be in place? I do not have that option enabled.

Thanks again for all your help. That is one of the main reasons I switched from another CMS to Concrete5. I almost always get help to every question asked. Not so in the previous CMS forum. Love this community!

Maybe. I will wait for others to chime in on that as I always have Advanced Permissions enabled so am not sure of what options over and above the simple permissions you get (and the documents don't give much of a clue):

I do know that the change to Advanced is irreversible so if you do try, make sure you have backed everything up so you can revert.
