I have the same problem. Did you find the solution?

Has anybody found a solution for this yet? If it is simple: please just say something.
I find this increasingly frustrating, that the documentation seems to tell nice stories of how things are supposed to look, which do not appear in my installation.

Theres no option for "display pages beneath a particular page" when you edit the auto nav ? It may be that it was called something different in 5.3. ???
