cannot update to 8.4.5

Permalink 1 user found helpful
I am running concrete5 version 8.2.1. I keep getting a 404 error when ever I try to update to 8.4.5. I've been getting this error since 8.3.1.

I click the update button from the dashboard when attempting to update. I host with Bluehost and asked them what the issue may be. They said that on their end, they only have version installed for my account. There was an update to 8.4.0 options with a warning that it would erase my site first. I worked with them and they said they would back up my site, but it shouldn't erase anything. Well, it did. Thankfully we were able to eventually restore it, but I was told they wouldn't be able to update me to 8.4 through them w/o losing everything, but suggested I tried updating to 8.4.1 through the Concrete5 dashboard. I told them this is what i tried first before contacting them. They said sorry.

So community, I ask you: how do I get this to update?
Thanks,
Jason

Hmm... I'm trying.
I think the part marked Manual Dashboard Update is what I'm going to need to do. I'm stuck at direction number 4: Move the concrete5.x.x.x folder into your updates/ directory. That makes sense, but HOW do I move it to to this update directory? I can't find a way to upload a file to a specific location, or drag and drop. I'm sure its simple, I'm just missing it.
thanks.

You will need to use FTP or something similar to upload the files to your server.

...or your host may make CPanel available to you, which has a File Manager.

this seems like it will work. however, i seem to keep running into roadblocks. I'm not able to upload whole folders at once. It seems like i should be able to, but I can't. (irritating). There are 13,000+ files in a lot of subfolders. Moving them all manually seems daunting, but that may be my only choice.

hmm.. i typically don't use FTP. I just do it directly from within Concrete5. I've tried figuring this out from within Bluehost, but am stumped. I may need to contact them with this. Unless you had any other suggestions.

Thank you btw for your help. It is appreciated.

You can upload zip of multi folders using CPanel file manager, then unzip on server. Quicker and more reliable than one by one.

Hi, I ftp or use cpanel file manager for manual upgrade all the time. Just go into file manager create a temp dir.. Then download the 8.5 upgrade zip to your desktop, go back to cpanel file manager go into temp dir, upload 8.5 zip to temp dir then " extract " the 8.5 update. Once extracted to temp dir open the folder theres another 8.5 folder from the extracted. Now highlight that folder and click move... You will need to type the path where you want it to go.. Or you can drag drop to your upgrade folder. Verify its in your upgrade folder then go to concrete admin go to upgrade concrete5 you will now see the uograde... Click on upgrade.. As always backup your site prior to upgrade.
I use other isp's too but like bluehost, been using for years also. Now with the free zerossl cert manager in cpanel working with my C5 can't go wrong. (Sorry for the plug)
