checking for updates

Unable to edit after logging into dashboard. This is the second day the screen displays (checking for updates) It never stops searching. Is anybody else having this problem? The last update I did was a new theme I purchased, which was running perfectly the last time I logged in about 3 weeks ago.

Open config/site.php and add this line:
define('ENABLE_NEWSFLOW_OVERLAY',false);

I just spent all weekend creating my site and had it just the way I wanted. Then I initiated a update (first I backed up)to latest version. I must have also inadvertently enabled "site under maintenance". Now I can't get to my config files to do as you suggested on this post.
