Concrete5 generating excessive tables

I'm looking after a website I that I don't have access to the hosting backend. Its a community site. However, the guy who looks after the account got a message from Bluehost saying that the site has generated over 1000 tables and that its going to be deactivated.

Where would these be generated from or where should I start looking?

We're running version 5.6.1.2.

Turn off statistics and clear the tables

Thanks - I've turned off statistics. Which tables to clear and how do I go about that? Can it be done via the Systems and Settings web interface or some other means?
