Do I need FTP access to modify my files?

I notice everybody on the forum talking about changing their css files and things like that. I just have a trial account. Do I need to purchase a hosting account in order to have FTP access to my files? Or am I missing something.

yes,

with a trial account, you cannot navigate the filesystem,

if you purchase hosting, you get full access to it,

I also would like to upload images but found concrete5 through my web host. Does this mean that I have to switch hosts just for this to work? I hope not because I really like concrete5 but have already paid my yearly subscription to my current host.
Thanks.

I think we're addressing two different things here. As I understand it, the trial is a "sample" so you can try it out without purchasing hosting.
You should, however, be able to upload Concrete5 to your current paid hosting for no charge and have access to all the features.

That is what I thought, thanks!
