Does Concrete5 5.7 have a blog function?

Hey Concrete5 members,

I saw that the Concrete5 5.7 pre installed templates had some kind of a blog function but I do not understand how this is working.
I Googled a bit but there is not much information about the blog function.

Does Concrete5 5.7 has an inbuilt blog function?

Hi!

Yes. C5 5.7 has a built in blog. If you choose installation with demo content, then the blog is already set up.

To add a new blog entry you just click "new page" (that two sheets symbol) in the toolbar at the top and then click "blog entry".

Hope this helped you out a bit.

Hey!

Yes it did help me!
I immediately installed a Concrete5 version with the demo content.
I saw the concept and I am looking now how I can install this in my own themes.

Hello nesoor,

They are actually using the "Page List" block.
This block can provide attribute values and values of the contents of pages. So for every page you create, you create a new blog post.
I must admit, it is a really nifty tool!

Hey again ;)

I added the "Page List" block and went through the options.
Now I am looking for a documentation how I can install a blog on my own themes.
Do you know if there are any documentations?

Using Elemental for the example:

1. create a Blog page for your Blog Entry page list block and to be the parent for your Blog Entry pages
2. create a page type for your blog entries (commonly named Blog Entry with a handle of blog_entry)
Dashboard> Pages & Themes> Page Types> Add Page Type button
3. Edit Form
- create the fields that will be used in the Blog Entry page type in Composer
4. Output
- set the defaults for the Blog Entry page type (what you want on the page and where you want it to go)
- composer content, attributes, blocks
5. Blog Entry page list
- the page list is used to display a list of Blog Entry page type pages
