Edit option not showing for a user with edit rights on a block

A steep learning curve, but a fantastic product!

I have almost finished building a new site and now want to give someone (user gw1)partial edit capability. I have created a special user group "editorgw", which is intended to have edit capability on one block in the sidebar on the Home Page. I have enabled advanced permissions. The "editorgw" group now appears in the Home Page permissions box, and I have enabled "read only" for the whole page. I then went to the particular block that he will be responsible for, and set the permissions for Group "editorgw" to Read, Write, and Delete. When I log out as administrator and log in as the editor, I expected to see an option at the top of the Home Page for going into edit mode to enable the block to be edited. However, this does not happen. Can anyone help please?

you need to add the user/group to have edit rights on the page.

the user needs to have those rights to enter the edit mode of the page.
you'll then have to revoke it's access on all other blocks on the page to keep it from changing those.

OK,thanks. A bit of reverse logic. I have gone through and made all the changes (a lot of blocks!), but it would have been easier to know about this during the set-up. It may be documented somewhere, but i couldn't find it.

That might seem that way but usually a user has full edit rights on a page, not just one block on it.

Hi,
there is a quick way to add blocks with its rights to all or specific pages of your website.
You have to define the standard of a page-typ (Pages and Themes -> Typ -> Standard). This means that new pages inherit all content and settings off the standard page-typ. That incudes also the settings of each block.
Additionally you can add blocks of the standard page-typ to all or specific existing pages with the same page-type.
To do this, in the block pop-up of the standard page-type there is an item to assign the block to the existing pages.

Jens

I am having the same problem, however, I have given my user permission to edit the one page but the edit bar is not showing up. What else do I need to check to get it working?

My problem was that I was on simple permissions when I needed to enable advanced permissions to do what I needed to do. Here is the article on how to enable advanced permissions on your site:http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/general-topics/simple-permis...
