Elemental Slider Replacement.

Good day all. This is a dumb question as I know I've done this before but just can't get my head around it.

We setup a C5 site for a client sometime ago and all was quite acceptable and functioning perfectly. Our client now wants to remove the Slider on the Elemental (actually Clonemental) home page and replace with other content.

If I delete the slider, I cannot add a block for the new content the way we want it. It's basically a messed up presentation.

Can someone give me a kick in the backside and remind/coach me how to do this?

Thanks,
Barb

Not quite sure what you mean by "I cannot add a block for the new content the way we want it. It's basically a messed up presentation." Are you having problems adding the block or does it just look weird after it has been added?

Thanks for the reply.

I've attached 3 images for reference.
1) Elemental1 = the first one is the Elemental "Starter / Basic" home page,
2) Elemental2 = I delete the slider,
3) Elemental3 = Now I cannot add anything at all.

At a bit of a loss.

I think you may have posted the same image twice.

From what you're describing, it sounds like there's something in the theme that is interfering with the editing interface. Probably you have something with absolute position etc that may be causing this.

Have you tried adding new content into the slider area before deleting the slider itself? That can sometimes work quite well if the area collapses back to a couple of pixels and hides itself under another element of the page.

If you'd like to PM me with an admin login, I can take a quick look and see what I can find.

Not sure if this will help, but as I'm setting up a new site from scratch, I started by deleting the slider. What I noticed is that in the default install, the slider does not have its own area, so in order to replace the content, the best way is to click the "+ add content" on the tool bar and then drag/drop the required block type in the space where the slider was. A little care is needed so that the blue line that thickens on mouseover goes across the whole page width (indicating that the target is the top area) but once it does, drop the block and it's inserted where the slider was.

The only other way is to add the block to the bottom of the main page and then drag it up to the top.

Apologies if any of this is stating the obvious.

Thanks Jero, we found that the 1st method works but requires some "tweaking" to make it look presentable.

Let me apologize for not posting back earlier with out solution (below). We like to fight the monsters before filling up a forum with a lot of posts.

We also did use your second method as well. It was a little better, but still kind of hoky.

Our Solution:
Discovering, as Jero pointed out, that he really doesn't have an area; we opted to create a new page type.

Had to do some copy/past and a little tweaking but it works quite well.

We can also change the layout container which is a trick we got from another post many moons ago.

Of course if one does this a lot then it is probably better to create a new page type.

Jero, thanks again for taking the time to reply.

No problem - good to know it's sorted.
