file manager problem

Hello everyone
I am a happy user of C5 for 3 years now, and i am very content with it so far
But, in one of my new sites i had a problem with the dashboard and i dont know if it is a C5 bug or server-side issue
When i log-in and go to Dashboard, it's OK, but when i go to another page directly and not thru Dashboard->Full Sitemap->Page (visit) i get logged-out and have to login again and again.
And also, lately that, when i try to upload anything : no luck!- whether it is 1 by 1 file it takes forever with no result, or when i press Upload Multiple , i get : "Unable to add Files" window error, as if i am logged out!
I already tried to empty cache, thru Dashboard and with CCleaner locally etc, but still the same...

Please help
Thank you in advance
George

Did you set the proper permissions on your installation folders?

The folders files/, config/, packages/ and updates/ will need to be writable by the web server process. This can mean that the folders will need to be "world writable", depending on your hosting environment.

Look at this link that explains how to do it for files/:http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/developers/5.6/installation/...

Hi there
Thank you for your reply, but although i did everything described and more than that ( i even set all folders to 777!) did not have any improvement on my situation, it stills gives me the same problems!
Any other ideas anyone?
Could it be the server's edition of MySWL or PHP or APACHE or ...?

Thanks
George

ok let's try something else.
You have an override elements/files

What is that? What does it do?

Your PHP and MySQL seem fine

Hi!
When you say "i have an override elements/files"
What do you mean? I don't know what is this, and of course i didn't do it!
Not in my knowledge at least....
Where did you see it and how can i undo it

Thank you
George

You posted your environment information in your first message. In it you can see this iece of information:
# concrete5 Overrides
blocks/autonav, elements/files...

We are interested in the part that says elements/files

What this means is that some of the files that "make" the file manager are being overridden by custom files. This is often done to add custom possibilities not offered by the original files.

The problem is, if there are issues in those overrides it makes the whole system stop working.

To check, you need to look at your site's installation files, at the root and look for the folder "elements". Inside it there should be another folder "files" and inside that folder some files and possibly other folders. If I am correct, start by making a backup of all those files and folders then delete them. Then empty your cache and see if it solved the problem.

You have to know that those files are probably there for a reason. Whoever developed your site put them there to do something specific and deleting them means those specific functions will no longer be active.

That's why you start by making a backup and deleting the files just to check the assumption that they are creating the problem.

Let me know if something is not clear

Hello

In this thread i asked for help on a site in C5 that worked just fine, and SUDDENLY stopped letting me add files in File Manager at first, and now i cannot even login!
It accepts my login and stays forever in : Checking for Updates and
when i hit refresh page, it shows the site normally - not logged in.
But, i desperately need to edit the site for the client and i dont know what to do!
Please i need your help!
Thank you
