Front Page Editing help please

Hi all,
I currently volunteer for a non profit website and I am trying to the site online but get a few error massages when trying to edit the front page can some one please help
here is the error I get with the site name removed.
Exception Occurred: /var/www/vhosts/xxxxx.com/test.xxxxx.com/concrete/controllers/dialog/block/edit.php:74 Call to a member function getBlockTypeHandle() on a non-object (1)

Thank You for looking at the details
I am under the impression that the site is installed correctly
But I don't understand the other comment - Where I have put "xxxxx.com" is where the site name should be I have other issues with it as when I try and back up the membership list I only get about 4-6 names and details and I know there are 200 members that I have put in there myself
If you need the full address with the proper site in the code please pm me as I can not post the original here as this is a profession members website and I would have to go to the whole members to get that published.

Please provide me the details of your site...is your site in local server...installed correctly??
