Inherited an OLD website need lots of HELP

I have taken over an existing concrete website that needs a lot of editing and updating. It is currently running on a very old version. I went to update and this is the error I received. Any help and information would be great!!

The directory /home/missionm/public_html/updates does not exist.

Instructions would be amazing.

Please post your current version.

It may be that your site is so old that the update procedure is different.

You will likely need to update in a number of stages.

I have looked through what I know to look through to find version level. Can you advise where to look?

Right click the web site page and click 'View Page Source', a few lines down you should see the version.

Example:
