Most basic editing question

OK, I just got started. I can't even edit the default text for the my main page title. The template puts in the text "My Site", but in edit mode, you can't edit that...! Am I just dense, or what?

You are not dense -- the site name is set up in an unintuitive (at first) way. And it differs between themes.

So it might be in Dashboard -> Sitewide Settings (change the text in the "Site Name" box), or it might be in Dashboard -> Scrapbook -> Global Scrapbook (click the "Edit" link to the right of "Content: My_Site_Name"). If you're using a non-standard theme, it's also possible that you'll have to change the actual theme template file itself in the filesystem on your server: YOURSITE/themes/THEMENAME/elements/header.php (or maybe YOURSITE/themes/THEMENAME/default.php -- depends on the theme).

Your second suggestion solved it. As you said, it was unintuitive.

Many thanks to you for solving a frustrating problem for a rank beginner!

But if I am to edit files, Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose... ?

Anyhow, still beats coding everything!

Yes, that's why ideally it's in either the global scrapbook or the dashboard's "Site Name" field (so it can be changed from the site by an admin or content manager, without having to deal with files).

However, there are some themes that were made a long time ago or weren't constructed in the best way (or were made from scratch by someone who is just learning and doesn't know how to set these up properly) that might need to have their files edited -- I just included that in my answer to cover all of the bases.

I have followed these instructions, but "First site" title remains unchanged.

I am just using the simple "Plain Yogurt" theme.

What can I be missing? I have really made sure that I changed the name in both options.

Thanks

Hi,
Be sure to Always clear your site and browser cache when not seeing changes expected. (Dashboard - Sitewide Settings to find "Clear Cache" under Speed Settings, F5 to clear browser)

Hi all. I am confused also. I am new also and followed the instructions to change my Site Name in the Scrapbook, but nothing changes, even after clearing cache. I also found a field in the Dashboard Sitewide settings, so the name is entered there, but I cannot change the text color. Can someone help me please. Spent an hour trying to figure this out... Thanks!!!!

The Dreamy theme - feather, clouds, tree...

Dreamy is an older theme that pulls the sitename from the entry box on the top of the dashboards Sitewide Setting page. Its an H1 text and I think you need to change the H1 color in the typography folder of your theme.
(yep, just checked... line 20 of your typography css file sets the title color)

Trying to change the My Site to my own logo. Like many other users, I'm not getting anywhere. How do I insert my own logo on the top left?

My Version: Concrete 5.4.2.2
My Template: Vanilla

According to the posts there are 2 ways to change the "My Site" title,

1.) Dashboard > Scrapbook > Global
- This does not work. I've uploaded an image, changed the text- nothing changes. AND I have refreshed the cache, deleted the cache etc.

2.) Dashboard > Sitewide Settings > Site Name
- This works to change the text. But not to upload an image!

Please help me!
