No block types available

Hi there,
I'm trying to get a news section on my site, which consists of an overview page and the individual news items (much like a blog, actually). I'm stuck designing the overview pages. These are based on the Left List template, having the left_list handle and using the left_list.php file. This all works. I added a form for Composer, which also works. But when I'm adding a new page of this type, I can't insert any blocks. They all say "No block types available".
What am I missing?
