Page Properties "save" button missing, unable to "exclude from nav" and rename page.

I know this is a loaded question, and it might simply be a usage issue, but the online documentation is so NOT clear on this.

It used to be that I could go to the Page Properties window (usually from the "Full Site Map") and in there:

• click things like "exclude from nav"
• change the page's name
• change the canonical URL/page path

At some point in the C5 upgrade process the page properties window is still there, but now:

• "exclude from nav" is no longer an available option; it's crossed out, greyed-out (see attached picture).
• page's name, canonical URL/path can be changed, but there is no save button, so that the change is never implemented.

Now, if I add a page type to Composer, I get some of these options in Composer, but I shouldn't have to add a page type that I have no intention to use as a blog to be included in Composer (should I?).

Found another user who describes the _exact_ same problem as I am having, though I am not sure his 'solution' is the same as mine.
