Upgrading Concrete
To upgrade your Concrete5 installation from a previous version, do the following (note, this will only work when upgrading from versions LATER than Concrete 5.0.0a4).
- Archive your database and your web root...just in case something should go awry.
- When ready, replace your "concrete" directory with the "concrete" directory contained in the latest version downloaded from SourceForge.
- Go to http://www.yoursite.com/index.php/tools/required/upgrade (Note: if this does not work, try http://www.yoursite.com/index.php/tools/required/upgrade.php)
- Make sure to follow any pre-upgrade instructions (for example, Concrete5.0.0a4 requires a jobs/ directory be created in your webroot.)
- Finally, when ready, click the Upgrade button.
Important Note: If you're updating a site older than 5.3 to 5.3 or later, and your site uses non-ascii characters, you'll want to read this first!

Help! I upgraded concrete5 and now my site displays garbage characters or gibberish.
You'll need to run a few commands on your database to get your data to migrate smoothly from 5.2 to 5.3 and beyond.

Just wondering if this means (after archiving) unpacking the new tarball on top of the existing directory? Perhaps _some_ configuration files are retained then ...

Is step 3 still needed? I just upgraded a site from 5.2RC2 to the full 5.2 and that URL (with or without the PHP extension) resulted in a Page Not Found. Rather, there was an upgrade link in the dashboard after replacing the "concrete" sub-directory.

Yes - this step is definitely still needed. The "update" link really should just take you directly to the URL in step 3.

I installed an early version of Concrete, 5.0.0 and the upgrade option doesn't work for me. Is there any easy-ish way to be able to upgrade to a newer version without having to re-do all the content? Thanks. btw I have a site on http://www.inflatablesnsw.com.au which has a few custom blocks. I would really like to contribute these, but would want to refine the code and do it in a way compatible with the newest version.

I had the exact same issue as djn12313 (above) upgrading 5.2.0 to 5.2.1. The url in the instructions at the top of this page (either version) failed to work BUT clicking on the "upgrade" link in Dashboard once I'd copied 5.2.1's "concrete" folder across to my site did the upgrade for me.

I posted a message about upgrading from Concrete5.0.0 but there has been no response. This is getting urgent now as i cannot upload files, I get access denied and then the session is destroyed. The folder permissions are set up correctly. I have seen this bug in the forums and there was no resolution for it. Now I have a Concrete5 installation that can neither be upgraded, nor the content updated. Please provide some guidance on this issue as it is souring an otherwise very good experience with this excellent software.

crimar: You'll get a lot better help out of the community by using the forums for support questions rather than these documentation guest books, which are really intended as a way to augment what we've written for everyone's benefit. That being said, the answer to your question is no - there is no upgrade from 5.0 - 5.2 script. You need to upgrade first to 5.1 and then from 5.1 to 5.2. If this is more than you care to deal with, please contact us through the support tab up top and someone can login to your box and take care of everything for you.

Just upgraded from 5.2.0 to 5.3.1.1 and while the front end works seemlessly the backend has a MAJOR problem. I can't see any pages in the sitemap and if I do a search for a specific page I get what looks like a SQL dump.Urgent Advise sought.

i would suggest posting this in the installation forums along with a call to your phpinfo settings if you want quick advice.

Just wanted to say that my upgrade went off without a hitch -- it was easy, quick and painless even with a shared core installation. Nicely done, sirs.
