Installing Add-ons & Themes
- Download & Unzip the package from the Concrete5 marketplace. (this should give you folder on your local computer).
- Upload the entire folder to the [site-root]/packages/ directory of your Concrete5 site.
- Navigate to your Concrete5 dashboard at http://[yoursite.com]/index.php/dashboard, and click the "Add Functionality" tab on the left side. Below the list of installed applications, there will be a "New" section where your new application should be listed, click install.
Your new application will now be available.

how do I bring the new themes into my site??? I followed the steps above and it is not working... looks like the steps are for add-ons and not themes?

How do I get past step two? It says upload the entire folder to the [site-root]/packages/ directory of your Concrete5 site, but it doesn't tell me how?

How you upload the folder is dependent on your server setup (where your website is hosted). Normally you'd use an ftp client that can take files on your local computer and upload them to the server where your website is hosted. With concrete 5.3.x you can install most packages automatically by going to "Add Functionality" in the dashboard.

I think this needs to be updated. When I added a theme to the root/packages or the root/concrete/packages folders nothing happened. Then I noticed that the theme folder had other themes in it and so I added the theme to root/themes (not root/concrete/themes) and voila! Also in the dashboard it isn't under "Add Functionality", its under "Pages and Themes". Maybe that info above was for an earlier version...anyway, this worked.

The easiest way to add new themes to your site is to register as a user on concrete5.org (which it appears that you already have done since you were able to post your question), and automatically install your new theme. Do this by going to the "Pages and Themes" section of the Dashboard (click on the "Pages and Themes" button on the left-hand side of the Dashboard page), then click on the "Install Theme" link located below the new theme you would like. The available new themes are displayed at the lower half of the "Pages and Themes" section displayed under "Get More Themes." If you are registered, it's extremely easy and almost instantaneous. I hope this helps, it worked well for me just now.

How do you install on the latest version.packages directory does not exist when I created it it does not see it in add-ons.
Should there be an explanation of how to do this if you are asking people to pay for functionality?

Paul, do you have a [site root]/packages folder? If so is it write-able by your web server's user?

I have a similar error as Paul2515. I do not have a /packages folder. I installed 5.3.2 via simplescripts at bluehost.

Check out this thread, one of my replies has a screenshot of all of the folders that should be in the root of your install.http://www.concrete5.org/community/forums/themes/new_theme_not_showing_in_dashboard/#17021
There's nothing special about the packages folder (just an empty folder), just add it yourself & make sure that it's writeable by the web server.

These instructions don't really work. I tried the Save For Later method, and the "Get More Themes" dialog on Pages, says "unable to connect to the marketplace" However "Add Functionality" page says the website is connected to the market place, but there is nothing available to install.
I tried the manual download/unzip/upload method, and the site does not see the new theme in the themes folder.
Any other ideas?

regattanet - did you ever get that issue resolved? I'm having a similar issue right now. I go the "Add Functionality" page and 1. I can't login to the marketplace through there it gives me the following error "Unknown Error: Login Failed". However, I can login to the marketplace by going to the con5 site directly. 2. There have been a couple sites that I am able to login to the marketplace on the "Add Functionality" page, however (similar to what you said), there is nothing available to install. Not even the free add-on's and I heard they should just automatically show up.
Any ideas?

My installs are working. I found a few things in marketplace here that I could not find through add functionality, so I manually installed. I also found a few themes areound the net I wanted to look at. It seems that everyone is having issues where to install the files at. For themes it is root/themes for blocks its roots/blocks (not concrete). For me it is /public_html/blocks or /public_html/themes. I upload the whole zipfile to this directory then unzip it there. Then delete the zipped file (no need to waste space). Then the theme was under pages and themes in dashboard, and block was under add functionality.
I really am starting to like concrete5 more and more. I have to figure out the adsense stuff and that and I will be all set til I am ready to further customize. Great CMS guys!!!
