horizontalAlternative and slidemask settings not working

I have concrete5 (5.6.0) setup on a localhost, developing a site. I installed Advanced Slider - had to do a manual download and install, because the download kept doing nothing in FireFox and IExplorer.
I did get the slider working however. My problem now is that I want to use the slide transition, one slide at a time - which works fine - but I also want the horizontalAlternative option set, which doesn't work. I find it strange that the other setting changes are affected, but not this one.
Another setting change that doesn't work, is the Slide Mask. It's supposed to set the sldier overlay to hidden, but when you inspect the CSS in firefox it shows overflow: visible - and I have no CSS overwriting it.
I can manually fix the slidemask (although a proper solution would be nice), but the horizontalAlternative is the more pressing matter.
Another thing I picked up is that if you set the sliders starting with the number of slices to 'Default' and you load the preset next time around, these sliders are not available for edit. Firebug shows an error loading the settings saying the syntax is invalid.
I hope the info helps and that someone can help me. I see the first two issues I mentioned were experienced by tow other users as well.
