FAQ

Before opening a support ticket, please take a look at the most frequently asked questions:

  • Why does the Bitter Shop System need extra extensions?
    • The Bitter Shop System does not need any extra extensions to work. All components by me run basically without dependencies. However, some extensions work closely together. Thus, it is e.g. possible to integrate the PDF Designer or to use the Bitter Theme as it already contains ready-made stylesheets for the Bitter Shop System. However, all extensions are stand-alone products that can be purchased separately and used for completely different applications. That's why the products are sold separately and not as a bundle. It's just like buying a car: it's up to you if you just want the basic version or a bit more.
  • Why the Bitter Shop System and not the Community Store?
    • Both systems have their advantages and disadvantages. While the Community Store is only available through GitHub and needs to be installed manually, the Bitter Shop System is an official software solution that is listed in the Marketplace and has various certifications. In addition, as a buyer, you are entitled to support. A big Pro for the Community Store that it is an open source and that it is free. Both software solutions are of high quality. It really depends on your project, which system is the better choice for your project. Do you want to have a good base fastly, with little effort and yet be able to customize, then the Bitter Shop System is the right choice for you. If you are planning something more complex, which differs very much from the online demo of the Bitter Shop system, you have to weigh up the effort which shop system brings along less development effort in the adjustments. Take a look at the detailed documentation of the Bitter Shop system to get an insight. Otherwise, you can also contact me.
  • Why embed the Bitter Shop System and not a third-party solution?
    • Of course, you can use a third-party solution and easily embed it in your page via IFRAME or other technologies. But keep in mind that most solutions involve high running costs. In addition, the content is dynamically reloaded and thus the products cannot (or only poorly) be indicated by Google.
  • How does export work on other sales platforms?
    • For example, if you want to export an item on eBay, you will need to fill in the required information (such as the category, SKU, etc.). Then, on the Dashboard page, under Jobs, click “Export Articles”, and the items will be exported to their respective platforms as if by magic. Please note that the export function is still in beta phase.
  • How can I change the return address for the generated emails?
    • Emails are sent via the send function of concrete5. To change the return address, you must do this globally in the concrete5 configuration file. Please read the following article.
  • Can I divide products into categories?
    • Yes, that is possible. However, in the current version only on one level. This means you cannot create subcategories.
  • Why don’t you use the concrete5.org e-mail address as the support address?
    • The use of BitBucket as a support address is therefore more useful to me, as it is directly linked to the repository and connected to all processes (keyword: continuous integration)
  • Can the extension be tested?
    • Yes. There is an online demo version of almost all extensions where you can test the frontend. The backend is available only in form of screencasts and screenshots.
  • Could I get a free license to test?
    • Usually no. The product descriptions and documentation are detailed enough. And in addition to that there are screenshots, screencasts and an online demo version in most cases. If you think that you have a very good reason to get a "test license" please contact me via PM.
  • I need the extensions for a charity project. Are there any price reductions?
    • Send me a message with more detailed information about the project. If I think that this is a social project, you will receive all necessary licenses for free.
  • Are there discounted licenses for students, teachers and educational institutions?
    • Send me a personal message with your valid certificate of enrolment attached and you will receive 50% discount. Please note that you will not get a refund. Please inform me in advance about your intention to buy. I will then send you a personalized offer.
  • I have already purchased the extension but would like to make use of the special offer. Is there a possibility that the already paid purchase price will be charged?
    • That is possible. Send me a direct message on concrete5.org with your order number and I will send you back the appropriate compensation.
  • Under which license will the extension be distributed?
  • Is there something I should consider before the installation?
    • Please do not install via FTP. Although this works, an error may occur. Instead, follow the installation instructions of concrete5.
  • Which concrete5 version is needed?
    • For me it is very important to offer a high coverage rate with as many concrete5 versions as possible. This extension works with concrete5 8.0 and up to the latest version.
  • Which PHP version is needed?
    • The extension works with the minimum requirements for the concrete5 system. Therefore, you do not have to worry about the PHP version or other software versions.
  • Is the extension also compatible with concrete5 5.6 or older versions such as the Legacy Version?
    • Unfortunately not, but it is generally no longer advisable to use the concrete5 version 5.6 because here the support has been completely closed. More details can be found in an article by Franz.
  • Is it possible to adjust the extension?
    • The extension has been developed following the best practices of concrete5. This means that they can make changes in the core system using the same techniques as you (e.g. Custom Templates).
  • Do you offer support for the installation?
    • Yes, you can book me but only if I am not preoccupied with some other project at that time. I charge $120 per hour. Just send me a direct message via concrete5.org.
  • Is the extension compatible with GDPR?
    • Yes, the extension is compatible with GDPR.
  • Is the extension multilingual?
    • Yes, the extension is available in German, Dutch, Japanse, French and English. The extension is fully translatable. This means that by using an editor like POEdit for e.g, you can translate the extension into any language you like. You are also welcome to send me your translation so I can add it to the next version. In addition, you can benefit from community translations. Visit the "Translations" subpage to see what percentage of the extension has been translated into the desired language.
  • Does the extension work on all browsers?
    • Yes. I have basically tested every extension on all common browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera, Internet Explorer/Edge.
  • Is the extension compatible with mobile devices?
    • Yes. All backend and frontend views are responsive and adapt to mobile devices.
  • Is there a limit on blocks which I can place on a page?
    • No.
  • That sounds pretty good, but how should I know that the software is good?
    • All extensions of mine have 5 stars when they get a rating from the community. Briefly some information about myself: I have all concrete5 certificates, in 2017 I was an active member of the PRB exam committee for a year, I am a Core Developer and have published a book about concrete5. In addition, for the past three years I have been working exclusively with concrete5 on all jobs and am an authorized concrete5 Agency Partner. Last but not least: I have Google certificates for the SEO field. I think my expertise should clear the last doubts.
  • Is it allowed to make code changes?
    • Legally, it is allowed to modify the code of your licensed copy of the extension. However, you should be aware that if you change the extension, you will no longer be able to make use of the updates, or your changes will be overwritten if the extension is updated. For this reason, it is strongly recommended not to do so. If you want to modify an extension, please use techniques such as "Custom Templates", "Class Overriding" and other techniques proposed by the concrete5 documentation. In case of doubt, contact me via a feature request.
  • Can I adjust the colors?
    • Yes, all colors are editable in the block settings.
  • Will I receive an invoice if I purchase the extension?
    • Yes. On concrete5.org. you can submit your claim for an invoice. Go to Transactions> Purchase History and click on the order number. Enter your billing address in the "Bill to" section. You have the option of saving or printing the invoice. The bill is internationally recognized and can be set off against tax liability.
  • I think the extension is good but too expensive.
    • Keep in mind how much time you would need to program such a functionality yourself. You will quickly come to a four-digit amount of hours at an average hourly rate of a software developer. With Marketplace purchases, you have the opportunity of affordable functionality upgrade and permanent benefit from updates. Therefore I personally think that the price is even set to low. But that is something that has to do with someone’s point of view. I believe that the extension’s price is affordable, but if someone finds it expensive then I recommend you to look for my special offers. For almost all extensions, I offer special bundles at a discounted package price.
  • During the installation I get time-out problems (Error 500)
    • Some extensions of mine are very extensive and have a very resource-tugging installation routine. Normal servers can easily cope with the installation. However, some servers (especially virtual servers) and cheap webhosting packages are limited. If the installation should stop with a timeout, you have two options. On the one hand, you can increase the PHP settings "maxexecutiontime". If you do not have permissions to change these settings, you can alternatively install the extension via the concrete5 CLI application (second option). More information about the CLI application can be found here
  • I bought a bundle. In which order do I have to install the extensions?
    • If you have purchased the UI Bundle, first install all extensions of the UI Bundle. The order does not matter. Then the Bitter Theme. If an extension is not installed, the installer will advise you. In this case, cancel the installation, install the missing software, and then proceed to install the Bitter Theme. Then (if there is a license) you need to install the PDF Designer. After you have installed everything you can install the Bitter Shop System. Compliance with the correct installation order avoids conflicts.
  • I have a problem and wrote a message but I haven’t received an answer yet. It's urgent!
    • I'm already one of the fastest here in the marketplace in terms of support. However, I am only a human and must also sleep in between or pursue other activities of life. The concrete5 Marketplace sales are a nice extra income. However, I can not live from the sales. That's why I also work as a freelancer on the side and often do various projects. In addition, I live in Germany. Many customers come from the US and have a time delay of up to 9 hours. If we are not online at the same time, a conversation like that can take a long time. At the weekend, I also usually let the laptop closed. So please write me your messages as detailed as possible. This avoids unnecessary queries. As soon as I have time I will answer you. Promised! Important note: Additions such as "Urgent" or "Important" with ten exclamation points will not make your messages of higher priority.
  • Does the extension also work with full-page caching?
    • Of course, the extension also works with full-page caching. The cache functionality isn’t affected in any way.
  • Did not the UI bundle consist of fewer components in the past?
    • Yes, this is true and, strictly speaking, you need only five extensions of the UI bundle for the Bitter Theme. However, the UI bundle is updated regularly. In other words, when I release a new extension that matches the UI bundle, it will automatically go into the package - with no price increase.
