License about BD blocks for Theme

Permalink Browser Info Environment
I was asked by Japanese user if he can include the blocks that were/was made by Block Designer or Block Designer Pro, and possibly sell the theme on the marketplace with those blocks

If he wants to do so, what kind of licensing do you require? He could just purchase one license per theme?

In the future, I can also consider that in PRB submission of the theme.

Hi Katz,

For each project you use Block Designer for, you will need a license. So if you create 3 (or 33 or 333) blocks with one project, you only need 1 license. If you have multiple projects, you will need multiple licenses.

Would be nice if there's a mention in the credits to Block Designer, that this was used to generate the blocks.

Kind regards,

Ramon

Hi Ramon,

Thanks!

I'm not talking about project.
I'm talking about the person who wants to create a theme for the marketplace.

Sometime, you want to create theme specific blocks. BD would be good to make those custom blocks.

So how would you charge for that?

Thanks

Hi Katz,

I'm assuming each theme should be a new project. You don't make multiple themes for 1 project. So in the end, 3 themes = 3 licenses. I can imagine that would be a bit too expensive for most, so I can offer discounts of course if you buy multiple licenses at once. If you buy 1 license at a time, I can't do discounts as I'm not sure if you will be buying more.

Makes sense?

Kind regards,

Ramon

Thanks Ramon!

I'm so sorry to bother you.

But I would like to make sure that you understand my point. And this would be one of the base for the future licensing for the marketplace.

> I'm assuming each theme should be a new project.

Why am I talking about this?
------------------------------

It would be nice to see the designer and developers make more themes available at the marketplace so that more people will be attracted to concrete5.

One of the key could be the variation of custom blocks.

Sometime, theme needs to make a custom block to achieve what the theme wants to do.

So it would be nice to be able to include Block Designer and Block Designer Pro blocks into marketplace themes.

However, since the marketplace commercial license is made per project. It's not really designed to bulk license to the developers and designers who wants to use packages for their own add-ons and themes.

Your input will be one of the basic plan for the future.

CASE EXAMPLE
==============================

For example, this person made 2 themes for the marketplace, each theme include custom blocks that he or she made using Block Designer, the later one include the block with Block Designer Pro.

The circumstances
------------------------------

1. Theme A
- Block Designer: Custom Block 1
- Block Designer: Custom Block 2

2. Theme B
- Block Designer: Custom Block 1
- Block Designer Pro: Custom Block 1

The person does not include actual Block Designer & Block Designer Pro codes.
She or he will only include the custom blocks that was created from Block Designer.

So the person who purchased the theme, won't be able to re-edit those blocks.

How many license?
------------------------------

The person started to sell those two themes on the marketplace.
After a month, they were able to sell 5 A themes, and 10 B themes.

[1.] Just a number of the theme

- 2 Licenses of Block Designer
- 1 License of Block Designer Pro

[2.] You have to buy the number of the BD blocks actually sold

- 15 Licenses of Block Designer
- 10 Licenses of Block Designer Pro

Who needs to pay? How we will assign license
------------------------------

Then, who will have to pay those licenses.
In my personal opinion, the theme developers should pay the fee to you. Not the project holder.

I'm sorry to write you a long email. But do I make sense?

Thanks.

Hi Katz,

No problem, bother me as much as you like haha.

The theme developers should pay indeed. I was thinking theme developers would be the same as project holders in your case. You don't need to buy a license for every sale, that's ridiculous. As each theme will be sold seperately (I assume you don't sell 2 themes as 1 product), you will need a license per theme. May there be a case where you put 1 (ONE) product online with multiple themes, that will need only 1 license. But I'm guessing that won't be your case, as people are looking for something specific, and not a bunch of themes in one single product.

In your example, you would need 2 licenses of BD and 1 license of BDP. So please do not think you will need 15 + 10, that's not the case.

If you know you will be making a lot of themes, you can buy more licenses at once. You can contact me if you have a number of licenses in mind. You can also use the deal at this site to buy a 5-pack of course.

Does this make sense too? :)

Kind regards,

Ramon

Cool.
Thanks!

OK. I will let the Japanese user know.

Actually, I came across the idea of "Developer License." option for the marketplace add-ons.

You can set the price and terms for the developer, then the developer can include the add-on to the theme.

It may not work out... but I will through this idea to PRB.

Thanks!
