Problems with Stacks

Permalink Browser Info Environment
Jordan,
Is anyone else having problems with stacks? I created two designer content blocks and when I try to use them in stacks they come out in the wrong order and with a title for one of the divs I created. I can probably figure out removing the title but I cannot get them to appear in the correct order and I cannot move any of the items I have added in stacks. When I click on move nothing can be moved and if you go into the stacks they appear all screwed up as well. They are not in the order I entered them and they go beyond the editing box and extend into the background image below the editor, some centered, some all the way to the left and some just slightly off. I am attaching a screenshot for you and can give you access to the site if you want to have a look.
Thank you,
Jeff Sullivan

This is a shot of the 2 column page when I add the stack to the left column.

Hi Jeff,
There is nothing specific to designer content itself that would cause such problems, so I'm guessing the issue lies in your markup for the block.
Are you using any javascript or custom styles for these? Have you customized the controller.php file of the block at all? Or just the view.php file? If you want to ZIP up the block folder and post that, I can try to take a look and see if I can tell what might be acting screwy.

Jordan,
I have zipped up what is in my blocks folder. All of the styles I added are not there. This morning I added the following styles and then added the content:
.menuCategory {
text-align: center;
font-size: 1.4em;
font-weight: bold;
text-transform: uppercase;
color: rgba(255,255,255,1);
text-decoration: underline;
margin-bottom: 10px;
}
.menuCategoryDescription {
text-align: center;
font-size: 1.0em;
color: rgba(204,204,204,1);
padding-bottom: 10px;
}
.menuItemTitle {
text-align: center;
font-size: 1.2em;
margin-bottom: 8px;
text-transform: uppercase;
font-weight: bold;
}
.menuItemPrice {
text-align: center;
font-size: 1.1em;
color: #9A1F86;
}
.menuItemDescription {
text-align: center;
font-size: 1.0em;
color: #FFFFFF;
font-weight: normal;
padding-bottom: 10px;
}
I really have not used it anywhere else as of yet so if there is a way to do a clean uninstall of Designer Content and start from scratch I can do that. I will want to use the same titles and styles though so do I need to delete anything from the database?
Thanks,
Jeff

I'm stumped.

I don't see anything in your code that would cause problems (it doesn't look like you've altered them in any way from how they were created by Designer Content).

And it wouldn't be a problem with your theme css or js because you showed a screenshot of this happening in the dashboard (where it uses C5's js/css, not your theme's).

Do you by any chance have "custom designs" on these blocks (right-click on them and pick "Design" from the popup menu)?

And are you sure it's just these blocks that are causing problems? What if you create a stack and add some normal "content" blocks to them -- does the problem occur there as well?

Also, see if you're getting any errors via your browser's web inspector... that might help track the problem down.

If you want to do a "clean uninstall" of your designer content blocks, just delete the blocks from your system in the normal way: via Dashboard > Stacks & Blocks > Block Types, then click on the block in the list, then click the red "Remove" button.

Wish I had a specific answer for you, but I hope this info helps you figure it out.

Jordan, I have deleted the blocks from the dashboard>blocks section but the directories are still in the blocks directory. Should I delete those? I want to just start from scratch with a clean install. Also, should I delete anything from the database? If so, what? I haven't modified any other files so I can't really explain why this is happening. I wish I could.
Thanks,
Jeff Sullivan

If you've uninstalled the blocks via Dashboard > Block Types (you can tell because they should appear at the top of the list in the "Awaiting Installation" section), then yes it is safe to delete the block folders from your /blocks/ directory.

For a fully clean wipe, you can also delete the tables from the database. All Designer Content blocktypes are prefixed with "btD", for example "btDCMenuCategory", "btDCFaq", etc.
But make sure you have uninstalled the blocks via Dashboard > Block Types before you delete the database tables or the block folders on your server, otherwise you will have a lot of problems.

Also, before re-installing everything, you should test out if other kinds of blocks cause the problems you're seeing in the stacks. Because I'm really not sure how anything specific to the DC blocks could have caused that (of course anything is possible, but will be good to rule out the possibility if you can).

Good luck,
Jordan

Thanks Jordan. I will work on it and see what happens. Have a great day.
