Avatar showing under discussion forum post title

Permalink Browser Info Environment
Hi!

Just a quick question.

Why does the title of a post overlay the poster's avatar on the discussion forum list? For example please see:

http://pjbraley.com/forums/words4sale/...

Each of the forum lists that have posters, does this. For the posters who do not have an avatar, there is a little rectangle showing under the title of the post.

How can I fix this?

Thank you,

Beachgirl

Hi Beachgirl,
If you un-check "display badges overlay when hovering avatar" in the Discussion Settings from the dashboard, that widget should go away.

Hi!

Since I don't use badges, I never checked that box. Could it be
somewhere else?

Thank you,

Beachgirl

From the link you posted I believe that's the discussion_topics block that is printing out the avatar images. You can override this in view.php. I've attached a file that comments out the lines responsible for those avatars. Rename the file to view.php and copy it to (your site root)/blocks/discussion_topics/view.php and that should omit those avatar images.

Make sure to clear your cache if you don't see the change go into effect.

Hi!

I haven't had a chance to follow your suggestion, but realized something today. If I look at the website in Netscape, the avatar is next to the post title (where, I assume, it is supposed to be)...if I look at it in Chrome, the avatar is under the post title.

What would cause this? And if it is only a Chrome problem, do you think your instructions will actually fix it?

Thank you,

It probably has to do with how different browsers use table elements. I think Matt's suggestion should take care of the problem.

Dear MattWaters -

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you, the semester just got crazy and I had to step away from the site for a few weeks.

Can you please tell me where my files are located? Are they on the Web Hosting Hub's c-panel site? I realize this is something I should already know, but I cannot make the changes you suggest without locating my files.

Thank you,

Beachgirl

Hi Beachgirl,

Yes this would be on your web host in the root of your concrete5 site. Usually this folder is named public_html/ or www/ or example.com/ and if you have cPanel you should be able to get to it by clicking the File Manager icon and browsing around a bit.

So you'd first find the blocks/ directory. This is likely empty. In here, make a new folder named discussion_topics/ and put that file I provided in there, so you'd have a structure that looks like this:

(your site root)/blocks/discussion_topics/view.php
