Unfortunately, there is not a switch to throw and disable those links. You will have to actually override the element that displays the discussions. If you are using threaded discussions, that's going to be elements/discussion_messages_threaded.php, otherwise it is elements/discussion_messages.php

You may actually need to create a template to use your new element because the element for the discussions is "packaged", and packaged elements do not simply override.
