Change original language?

Permalink 2 users found helpful
Hi there
great addon - but how do I change the original language? My site runs in German, not English, but the addon automatically assumes English... Any way to change that default setting?

thanx

Hi RizzzO

I am not sure why you need to change anything.

I you have a site in German and someone selects another language, will it not just change to that language?

If you mean placing German to the top of the list then all you need to do is select the German option in the dropdown and move to the top.

I have not set any language as the default.

The only problem with Google Translate is if your site is in German and you select German, Google will say you can not translate a German site into the same language.

In-fact, do you mean the English names of the countries in the dropdown?

I was thinking of adding templates to the addon so people could select the language of choice.

I would need help translating all the names though as I do not speak German. ;-)

Hi

no, I don't mean the names.

I run a german site. I installed your add-on. So far so good, I see the drop-down box on the right. But when I select a language from it, lets say spanish, google automatically assumes that the originating language is English, so it does not work at all. It therefore looks for English words in the site, and only translates those, to whatever language you choose.

What I'm looking for is an Option to tell the add-on what the original language is... Seems it can't find that out automatically, and just assumes it's English.

Or am I mistaken?

ahh gotcha.

hmmm let me look into this. This could be a google problem but will double check. Thought it would do this automatically.

I'll let you know how I get on.

ok just realised how to do it... i hope...

If you look at the options code in the dropdown, at the end of each line is:

'langpair=en|sq'

'en' is English. You will see each one has English first so these are the base language. Change these to 'de' and that should do it.

Let me know how you get on and remember to mark this as helpful if you found it so.

On another note, I will be adding different templates to the add-on for different languages so it changes the base language in the near future.
