Show FLV, F4V and H.264-encoded MP4 videos using this tightly integrated video player for Concrete5

Features:

  • Play, pause
  • Seek
  • Volume
  • Fullscreen
  • Auto-play
  • Aspect-ratio resizing
  • Video smoothing
  • Custom thumbnail selection
  • HTML5 video support

If you have Concrete 5.4 or newer, you can view your videos or select your video thumbnail directly from the file manager. The thumbnail you select will automatically be used as the poster frame for your video when it is embedded in your site.

The Flash Video add-on uses HTML5 video as a fall-back when the user's platform does not support Flash. This will only work for H.264 video, and mobile browsers which are compatible with this format, like mobile Safari. Some of these platforms artificially "spoof" the Flash-detection script, which means that I must manually determine which browsers and platforms should have HTML5 instead of Flash. If you have an additional platform that is H.264 compatible and also supports the "controls" attribute for HTML5 video, please contact me and I will update the fall-back list.

The add-on will also use an HTML5 video container when viewed on certain platforms

Be aware that Flash supports MP4 video, but only if it is H.264 encoded. I also have become aware of a bug in Flash Player which will sometimes hide MP4 video when the player is embedded in a lightbox, such as in the file manager or in the included popup template. For these reasons, it is preferable to use FLV or F4V video when possible. Until I find a more suitable hack to address this issue automatically, you should be able to get MP4 video to appear by setting auto-play to false and clicking the seek bar a few times once the video begins playing.

If you need to convert your videos to the FLV format, you can use Adobe Media Encoder or try a free encoder like this one. If your video is hosted already by a service like YouTube or Facebook, you can try something like ClipNabber.com

Version History

Version 1.7.2: Added support for three new settings: "alwaysHideControls", "alwaysShowControls" and "showTimeCode". These are currently only available from custom templates

Version 1.7:
Added HTML5 video support for certain H.264-capable devices

Version 1.6: Added support for Concrete 5.4, greatly improved thumbnail process, improved the "Popup" template

Version 1.4: Created a new "External Flash Video" block, which works similar to the original Flash Video block, but it accepts a custom URL as a string. This should accommodate instances where you need to embed video which is hosted on another one of your servers.

Version 1.3: Added volume control

Version 1.2: Two new templates, "Popup" and "Wmode Opaque" have been added. The Popup template opens your video using a jQuery dialog box rather than showing the player on the page. The Wmode Opaque template is useful when you're having HTML stacking problems. It reduces performance but lets you overlay popups, drop-downs or other content over the player.

Version 1.1: Added the "Export Poster Frame" feature. You can see a live preview of your video and generate a JPG poster frame whenever you like. Since the first frame of your video is shown in the player by default, this is great for previewing a frame that's later in your video.
