Upgrade Breaks Gallery

Permalink Browser Info Environment
Hi JB
I have a site that uses the Gallerific addon version 1.1.4, the filesets used by Gallerific have custom permissions set so that each registered user can only upload and delete files from their own fileset..
If I upgrade to the latest version of Gallerific, the gallery will no longer display to "Guests", the only way I can get it to display is to include "Guests" in the "Search File Manager" permissions.
The problem with allowing Guests to search the file manager is that, when a registered user goes to the file manager, they can see ALL files in ALL sets and not just their own.
Your advice would be most appreciated..
Regards
David

Hi David,

I see. Did you enable Advanced Permissions? Also what is the version of your Gallerific currently?

The current version (Version 1.2.3)is the one that is failing..
I have always had advanced permissions enabled because this is a community site with in excess of 100 users and each with their own filset so that they can each have an image gallery.
Version 1.1.4 would show the galleries to the public (Guest View) but would not show the images in fileset order, Version 1.2.3 shows the images in fileset order but not to the public unless "Guest" is included in the "Search File Manager" fileset permissions.
Adding "Guest" as previously described is not an option as this allows all users to see all filesets and files.
Is there a way to get version 1.1.4 to sort the array by fileset order? it appears to sort the array by date ascending but I cannot track that code down in the controller..

Hi David

There should be no changes in the dropdown list of the file set. What should be shown should still be the current user's viewable fileset. You are mentioning "Search File Manager" this is not part of Gallerific add-on but a C5 tool for File Manager which can only be addressed via C5. I see you are having trouble with the sorting. I remember having that problem but it is not related to Gallerific, I'm guessing you have done a C5 update which causes that. It sounds like you have upgraded from a previous version of C5 which doesn't have the File Set ordering feature and then upgraded to a version which includes this feature. Is that correct? If so then you have to address that via the core of C5. However, we do offer paid services and solve that problem for you at $75. Just let me know if you want to proceed with that.

I don't see any options in Gallerific back end to change sort order?
Are you saying that there should be an option to change the sort order?

I realise of course that the C5 fileset permissions are a complete shambles as many other users have complained in the past (and still complaining in 5.6.3.1 bug tracker)

I don't believe that waiting for the core team to fix this issue is an option either, since they seem to be tunnel vision focused on 5.7!

Hi

Yes there should be a file set sorter in the dashboard > files > file sets. If you click on one of the file sets you should be able to arrange the files in "Files In Set" tab.

Unfortunately we only use C5's standard function to grab the File Set list. We cannot use a customised function as it might break future installations. The problem lies in C5 and it will need to be fixed via it's code. I'm not sure which to fix it because it depends on how the C5 installation was set up (i.e. upgraded from 5.5 to 5.6).

Hi JZ
That is the point I am making.. Yes, I can drag the images to a new location in the fileset as you have described, Gallerific version 1.2.3 will display them in that new order but not to "Guests" and version 1.1.4 does not display them in the new order but does display to "Guests".
I completely understand and agree that the real problem is C5 and its fileset permissions and I can justify that statement by saying that this error occurs on all image galleries that I have tried when you have advanced permissions setup on the fileset!
Many thanks for your time..

I see. Apologies for the confusion.
