The one example I've found of this block using fade (rather than slide) shows the images fading to white for the transition:

Can the block be set to a simple cross-dissolve instead (one image just fades into the next)?

(Since there are no screenshots or demos provided, it's hard to figure out how exactly this works and what all the options are...)
