KML file won't render placemark

Permalink Browser Info Environment
I saw this discussion and I have the same problem.

The KML file contains all the necessary info but it won't render the placemark and it won't even show the right spot. Only after I manually add the coordinates in the Longitude and lattitude window.

I added my KML file for examination.

I use this map for showing terrains in Nicaragua that are for sale. With the use of lattitude and longitude in the simple standard google map add-on it jumps to the nearest road. So I thought that this extended version would do the trick.

Thanks for help in advance.

It seems to put a pin on the map in Nicaragua when I uploaded to my test site. See my screenshot-- does it look like it's displaying the right place? I had to zoom in manually, but the pin is there.

What do you get when you try? Post a screenshot if it will help.

Hi Matt,

thanks you for your quick response.

When I installed the premium map I was running the website locally on my computer in MAMP. But I was connected to the internet, could that be the problem?

Today I uploaded the site and tested the KML again and it worked. Only it seems that the KML overrules the viewing distance. I take for instance 15 but it won't change, when I open the block to edit it again the distance is set on 3.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance, Pieter

Hi Pieter,

Yes, a website running on your local computer will likely not work with this block, even if the computer is connected to the internet. This is because Google's server needs to read the KML file on your website before it can fetch the map data and send it back.

Home / business internet connections are almost always firewalled to protect against malicious traffic-- so google can't read a KML on your local hard drive. It may be possible if you're actually running a web sever that's accessible to the outside world, but I think MAMP is pretty much intended to be a local development environment.

The zoom issue is a bug that we're aware of and will fix in the next update.
